Workshop: Optionality and Variation in Multilingual Syntax (OpVaMS V)
The NRW Teacher Training Act (§ 11 Abs. 10 LABG, amended on 20th April 2016) requires that in order to be accepted to study English (or any foreign language) as part of an M.Ed. degree, candidates must prove that they have been resident for a period of at least three months in a country in which English is the main spoken language.
It is recommended to organise the residency in a way which is demonstrably relevant to the study goal of the M.Ed. (e.g. as a university exchange, a school placement, a pedagogical activity such as Au Pair work, an internship in a social or pedagogical institution or other activities directly related to English and American Studies).
It is recommended to organise one continuous period of residency without interruption. If a student studies two foreign languages, a second period of residence abroad is recommended.
It is advisable to prepare early, and to take responsibility for your own plans to live abroad. More information about how to combine your stay abroad with university courses, as well as recommendations on how this requirement can be fulfilled in a way relevant to your studies, can be found:
Application forms to have residency abroad recognised according to the NRW Teacher Education Act (LABG 2009, § 11, Abs. 7, Satz 2) should be submitted to the lecturer responsible, along with all required documentation The application form you need to use can be found at the following link: Application form residence abroad.
